Mistress of Blades by *kintsao
Character concept created for class, envisioned in a steampunk universe.
She is by nature a chaotic character; one whose intentions are often unpredictable. She may seem like an ally at one time, and at other times a villain. All her motivations point toward one goal: to satisfy her fascination with machinery and steam technology.
Lady Aurelie was born into a wealthy lineage and was spoiled with gifts. Although she had many dolls to play with, she would rather stay in her father’s library than mingle with the other girls. Her father owned a manufacturing plant, and thus had a wealth of knowledge on early machinery within his library. Aurelie spent every waking hour in that library, reading all of the books available to her. She had read more than half of the library by age 7.
By then, most concepts of machinery were known to her. She wanted to expand that knowledge, so she began tinkering on her own. She created small steam gadgets, from mere toys to pocket-sized generators. At this moment, Aurelie had been largely home-schooled, but her father wanted to enroll her into a prestigious university because of her immensely high IQ. Against her will, she ended up attending. However, because of her seclusion as a child, she had extremely poor social skills and was generally received negatively by her peers.
Bullying became a huge problem for Aurelie. She became a target because of her small stature and unwillingness to fight back. In one fight, a bigger girl broke one of Aurelie’s creations. Aurelie snapped and began mercilessly clawing in retaliation. The bully suffered severe facial scars and Aurelie was taken away and locked up for psychological treatment.
Hers was a peculiar case in psychology. A man by the alias “Doctor Moebius” took an interest in her. Moebius assured her parents that Aurelie would be in safe hands. However, in the darker hours of the day, he would perform sick experiments on her. Aurelie suffered intense pain, humiliation, and emotional scarring for about ten years. She would try to relieve her mind by tinkering, but she was always punished by Moebius for doing so. She was eventually released, but she was no longer the shy, innocent girl she once was.
After what Moebius had done to her, Aurelie had a warped view on the world. She developed an instinctual hatred of man, and believed the entire world was against her. Her creations became fueled on vengeance; she began developing steam weaponry instead of her usual gadgets. She often spent most of her time locked away in her parent’s mansion working on her creations. Her parents were upset with her because they perceived her as a lazy adult. They constantly nagged her to find a husband or get a paying job. In a particular frenzied argument with her father, Aurelie stormed out of the mansion. The next day, her parents were ‘mysteriously’ found dead with multiple stab wounds. By default, she inherited her father’s company and a large sum of money.
Aurelie would use this money to fund her projects. The horrors that she witnessed in the lab of Doctor Moebius dulled her sense of pain and suffering. She became sort of a sadist and masochist. She began to augment herself with metal and machinery. It began small, such as a bracer, but she went as far as to replace her entire arm with a completely mechanical one. She became obsessed with upgrading herself. However, she later found such an activity to reach a limit, and began experimenting on creature augmentation. She melded dogs with machines; performing experiments on them just as Moebius had done with her.
She reached a point in her life where tinkering became unexciting. She wanted her creations to be put to use. She would use her prestige, beauty, and wealth to attract crowds of nobles to a grandiose banquet. However, at the end of every dinner, she would murder her guests using a variety of tools at her disposal. She would do this simply for entertainment; no gain at all.
She would exploit the lust of men, seducing them with licentious clothing and a flirtatious guise. She would take advantage of their daze with a quick and lethal stab. Anyone fortunate enough to evade her first waylay and attempt an escape would be caught with a hand-mounted steam harpoon and dragged back towards their demise.
Her crimes against humanity were eventually exposed. She welcomed the fame with open doors; inviting any man or woman to confront her. A bounty was placed on her head, and Lady Aurelie would always kill whoever was foolish enough to visit the Mistress of Blades.
